13th Annual Conference of Public Works & Environment Committees 2008

This week I am attending the 13th Annual conference of Public Works & Environment Committees 2008 at the NSW Parliament.

The conference is broken up into several sessions that cover areas such as Sustainable Public Infrastructure, Financing Public Infrastructure and The Energy Challenges of Climate Change.

There will also be two visits out to the Penrith City Council Lakes Development with a briefing on sustainability issues as well as a trip to the Parramatta Civic Place Redevelopment.

NAIDOC Ball

Last Saturday I attended the NAIDOC Gala Ball at the National Convention Centre. Below is a photo of the evening inlcuding award winner for Elder of the Year, Carol Petterson (seated left) and Jenny Macklin MP.

NAIDOC luncheon

Today I will represent the ACT Chief Minister at the Aboriginal Hostels Ltd. (AHL) NAIDOC luncheon at the Hellenic Club in Woden.

The AHL was founded in 1973 and provides affordable, temporary accomodation and meals for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a national network of 127 hostels.

Each year there are over 3,000 beds provided and more than 2 million meals served. The AHL is also one of the largest employers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia.

ACT World Youth Day official launch

Tonight I will representing the Chief Minister at the launch of the ACT World Youth Day at the Southern Cross Club in Woden.

World Youth Day is the largest youth event in the world. Sponsored by the Catholic Church, the event is held every 3-4 years in a different city around the world.

This year the event will be held in Sydney from 15 - 20 July.

Archbishop Mark Coleridge will host the evening in Canberra.
